What were
the Crusades? When did they start? How many Crusades were there?
The Crusades were military campaigns sanctioned by
the Latin Roman
Catholic Church during the High Middle Ages and Late Middle Ages. They started in
1095 when Pope Urban
II proclaimed the First Crusade with the stated goal of restoring Christian access to holy places in and near Jerusalem. There were a total of 9
crusades.
What were medieval castles like?
A castle is a type of fortified structure built in Europe and the Middle East during the Middle Ages by nobility.
The
interior of a castle contained staircases, bedrooms, hallways, priveys (rather
like an outhouse built inside the castle), women's rooms (small areas used for
chatting and embroidery), possibly a laundry, other household rooms…
Who could become a knight?
The Medieval Page of the Middle
Ages was little more than a child. But his training commenced from the age of
seven. The duties of a knight were seen as the combat duties and those duties
related to serving the lords and ladies.
How did a boy become a knight? What was the
training like?
The knighthood training of both
the Pages and the Squires of the Middle Ages continued with acquiring excellent
equestrian skills. A horse played an extremely important part in the life of a
knight. A knight would own several horses which were built for different
duties. These knights ranged in various sizes starting with a palfrey, or an
ambler for general travelling purposes. Bigger and stronger horses were
required as warhorses.

Conduct and Chivalry of the knight?
The Knights Code of Chivalry was
part of the culture of the Middle Ages and was understood by all. A Code of
Chivalry was documented in 'The Song of Roland' in the Middle Ages Knights
period of William the Conqueror who ruled England from 1066.
What kind of armor and weapons did knights
use?
The Primary weapon of the
Knightthroughout the centuries of knighthood was without a doubt the sword.
There were many weapons at the disposal of the knight but the sword was the
weapon that held the most prestige and honor to wield and master. Ansd the
sword, like the other weapons changed dramatically over the centuries as
technology changed.
